Schedule of Events

 

11:00am – 9:15pm: Shuttles will run to and from Main Street every 30 minutes until 6:00pm and every 40 minutes until 10:00pm.  CyRide will drop at the City, 5th Street and Clark Avenue and the southeast corner of Main Street and Kellogg Avenue next to Quilting Connection. Community Center

 

10:00am – 6:00pm: First United Methodist Spaghetti Dinner, 516 Kellogg Avenue Church

 

11:00am – 5:00pm: Business Open House (Some will host artists and musicians)

 

11:00 – 6:00pm: Food Vendors, the Gee Willie Climbing Wall and other CYcling Country venders on the 300 block of Main Street (vendors may stay open as late as 9:00pm)

 

 

12:00pm – 9:00pm: Olde Main Entertainment and Beer, Main Street and Burnett Avenue Garden

 

3:00 – 6:00pm: Vivace (blues driven classic rock) performs live on the Olde Main stage

 

7:00 – 9:00pm: CYcling Country edition of the Ames Municipal Band
                          Pre-Concert:  Iowa State University Flute Choir

 

Downtown Activities 

 

The Main Street Cultural District (MSCD) has planned for the 2008 Ames CYcling Country downtown events to include a spaghetti dinner, business open house, climbing wall, beer garden, food venders, bands, and much more.  

 

Shuttles will run to and from two downtown locations every 30 minutes until 6:00pm and every 40 minutes until 9:15.  CyRide will drop off at the City, 5th Street, and Clark Avenue, and shuttles will drop at the southeast corner of Main Street and Kellogg Avenue next to Quilting Connection. The day will start off with a Spaghetti Dinner sponsored by First, 516 Kellogg, at 10:00am.  Many businesses will open at this time and may have extended evening hours.  In addition to this, some will host artists or musicians in their business.  The 300 block of Main Street will bustle from 11:00am to 6:00pm with venders including Paradise Today Espresso and Smoothies, Godfather’s Pizza, Temptations on Main, The Spice Thai Cuisine, AARP, Upper and Gee Willie’s Climbing Wall.  Olde Main will be having a beer garden and entertainment until 9:00pm.  Vivace, a blues driven classic rock band will be performing at the Olde Main Stage from 3:00pm to 6:00pm.  Wrapping up the day will be the CYcling Country edition of the Ames Municipal Band held at Bandshell from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.   Iowa University United Methodist Church

 

Other services offered throughout the day will include Wi-Fi, available at the Ames Public Library, 515 Douglas Avenue, and cell phone charging outlets, available in Tom, a pocket park located adjacent to 330 Main Street.  Public restrooms and indoor comfort will be available at First.  The Ames Post Office is conveniently located downtown at 525 Kellogg Avenue. At the conclusion of the Ames Municipal Band concert, hop on the 9:15 shuttle to take part in the Festival events at the Iowa grounds. State Center

Professor Ruth Lin leads the 70-member ISU Symphony Orchestra in a program designed to educate and entertain young audiences. This is a perfect opportunity to introduce children to basic orchestral repertoires. Students will feel the excitement of a full symphony orchestra playing L' Arlesienne Suite No. 2 by Georges Bizet and Scaramouche by Darius Milhaud with soloist Michael Giles, ISU professor of saxophone.
